NEW TALENTS 2020 - collective photography exhibition

From 3 December 2020 until January 23

For the new edition of the group exhibition NEW TALENTS, B-Part Exhibition and the Photographic Exploration Project have cooperated for the second time, inviting artists* through an international open call to share what moves them in their quest for images. From experimental techniques to documentary, travel and urban photography, the entries received in the international call for entries span a wide range of subjects and are representative of the diversity of themes and approaches in global contemporary photography. In the context of the curated, collective exhibition, featuring new visions of photography by 34 selected artists from 18 different countries, social, experimental, political, formal and conceptual perspectives now enter into an interactive dialogue through the medium at the exhibition space of B-Part Am Gleisdreieck.

The format proves its topicality not least in the current situation: the digital submission of contributions eliminates the need for travel and transportation that would otherwise extend across the globe. Nevertheless, it also creates a collective, networking through the joint setting of themes both on social platforms and through the artworks in the physical space of B-Part Exhibition.

The curators Bénédicte Blondeau and Rüdiger Lange held a jury meeting to select the artists*.

Although photography can look back on a long tradition and a variety of themes have already been addressed and incorporated by artists*, the works on show expand the understanding of photography as a means of expression in a fresh, unexpected and sophisticated way.

The aim of the Photographic Exploration Project is to explore the photographic language in all its aspects and to give new voices in photography the opportunity to present their work to an international audience, share their practice and experience with professionals and gain recognition. The project focuses on collectivity: the plurality of perspectives allows a broader and more creative approach to issues, thus creating an expanded and innovative visual lexicon.

Through international open online calls for proposals, artists* can submit their contributions with particularly low thresholds. A small participation fee covers all costs – from the prints produced and the organization of the exhibition to the publication of the exhibition catalogue and website.

As an open space, B-Part Exhibition supports and promotes the creation of an international network for contemporary, young photography – not only via digital social media and the exhibition space, but also in a wider realm.
